Original reported records

No cross-sport expert ranking is assigned from this single-season sample. Current consensus requires dated, exact-market picks from distinct authors; that feed remains unverified.

Compare the exact matchup, market, publication date and price. A headline or popular pick is not a probability estimate.

Six simple rules.

01Shop the exact line

Same bet, better price. A different spread is a different bet.

02Reduce the markup

The board can sort eligible moneylines by bookmaker markup. Lower does not mean profitable.

03Do not chase a pick

If the odds moved, recheck the price before following anyone.

04Wait for the facts

Unknown starters, injuries or lineups mean more uncertainty.

05Watch shared risk

Several bets on the same game can lose for the same reason.

06Judge the full record

Include losses and closing prices. A hot streak is not proof.

BEFORE YOU FOLLOW A PICK

Is the price still there?

Compare a published pick with the odds you can actually get. Use the exact same selection, line and settlement rules.

Enter both prices

Published odds are a reference price. They do not reveal a bettor’s estimated win probability.

Have your own probability estimate?

Use an independently tested estimate for a bet with no push or void. This is your assumption; Chimp Picks has not validated it.

Publicly documented careers and research. No independently audited lifetime betting records were verified. These profiles do not reproduce proprietary models.

Rufus Peabody

Make the price the decision.

Peabody’s team describes a repeatable process of simulations, new information and comparisons between model prices and available odds.

  • Revise estimates as weather, conditions and other relevant information change.
  • Compare prices across books and account for exposure across related bets.

Compare the same market at the price actually available. An old recommendation cannot validate a new price.

Evidence & original sourcesFirst-person team account

The public case study does not release the full model or an audited results history. It describes a historical tournament, despite the page’s newer date.

Study the matchup. Respect the number.

Walters’ public teaching pairs statistical preparation with line shopping and disciplined execution.

  • Assess injuries, home advantage, weather, travel and scheduling.
  • Compare available lines, including the importance of specific spread numbers.

Check what is missing from a matchup before relying on its record. Confirmed injuries and lineups matter to a current assessment.

The public overview is not a reproducible forecasting model. Career results are practitioner claims, not an independently audited record.

Bill Benter

Learn from the market, too.

Benter’s published horse-racing work combined fundamental model probabilities with market-implied estimates, then tested whether the combination added information.

  • Train and assess a model using separate data; do not score it on the examples used to fit it.
  • Test whether blending independent forecasts with market probabilities improves prediction.

Treat a new strategy as a hypothesis. It needs held-out testing and prospective results before earning a value label.

Historical horse-racing results do not establish a current edge in football, baseball or other sports. Reported implementation results are the author’s own.

Joseph Buchdahl

Test the evidence behind the edge.

Buchdahl’s research examines whether betting results support a model’s predictions or could reasonably be explained by randomness.

  • Remove bookmaker margin before using market prices as a probability benchmark.
  • Compare expected and realized returns across the complete record; investigate uncertainty and variance.

A win streak is not validation. Evaluate closing prices, all results, sample size and uncertainty together.

Evidence & original sourcesPublished analysis and methods

Closing-line value depends on the quality of the reference market. It is a diagnostic, not proof of future profit. Buchdahl is included as a researcher, not a verified current career bettor.

WHAT EARNS A VALUE LABEL

Evidence before confidence.

01 / PRICE

A current, named sportsbook quote for the exact market, with its timestamp.

02 / MODEL

A tested probability estimate that accounts for missing data and uncertainty.

03 / RECORD

A complete timestamped record, including losses, pushes, fees and closing prices.

Historical records and public betting splits can inform research. They are not automatic betting signals. No pro picks are being copied into the board until the source, market and current price can be verified.
